Christin's journals

I have been a prolific writer since I could hold a pencil. My mother tells me she would find little homemade books left around the house when I would play ‘school’ with my siblings. I have kept a journal from the time I was in 7th grade, no doubt attempting to figure out the world. Today I still love to see my cabinet crowded with my collection of colorful, mismatched spiral notebooks, fancy leather-bound books, cloth-covered journals, journals with wooden covers, pocket journals, journals with moleskin covers and homemade journals. Decades of words written onto lined and unlined paper traveling from my body, heart, mind and soul, landing onto those pages through my hand. It reminds me of the power we all have to create and re-create our lives.

It seemed inevitable that a book would appear from the dreamscape of my inner world.

And now, the first one is here.

A Lifetime of Love in Seven Thousand Two Hundred Minutes

Relationships between stepfather and stepdaughter can be unfathomably complex. When Christin’s stepfather reaches the end of a final cancer diagnosis and is told he has only three to six months to live, she is suddenly invited into his dying process, a role she never expected to play. During his last five, heartbreakingly beautiful days, as he prepares to die, they discover a closeness and trust that can only be shared between father and daughter. Set in the deep south along the Texas Gulf Coast, where the cara cara hunt and the resurrection ferns mysteriously revive, 5 days: A Lifetime of Love in Seven Thousand Two Hundred Minutes is a poetic memoir that tells the story of vulnerability, bravery, the humility it takes to forgive and how it is never ever too late, to live or to love.

I was deeply touched reading this book. It will have a powerful impact in our world. It carries a profound message of radical acceptance, forgiveness and unconditional love. Thank you for writing it.

Author Bio

Christin Marie Staszesky is a poet and memoirist who lives in Houston, Texas. On weekends, she can be found at Hawks Rest, her two-acre sanctuary in Van Vleck, Texas, home to five 500-year-old live oaks. Christin is a member of several writing communities, including the Write Now Writers and has been a student of writing teacher Max Regan of Hollowdeck Press for over fifteen years. She participates in writing workshops, intensives, retreats and is an unofficial mentor to other writers. Christin identifies the Light Rider as her own personal archetype, passionately traveling, without apology, the shadowed and luminous richness of the spectrum of life. When she isn’t writing you can find her walking on the beach, gazing at the stars, studying natures gifts in the smallest of details, petting her chickens and listening to horses. She is also an amazing soup maker.

Christin is available for readings of her book or to be a guest author at bookclubs via Zoom.

Christin has begun working on her next book.

Most of us have or will experience a devastating loss during our lives. Christin Staszesky chronicles her own story beautifully and poetically through the final days of her step father’s life. She chose to make the process one of familial healing and comfort for her step father and wishes her story will help others through their own journey of loss, grief, hope and recovery. After reading this book I have a new outlook on how forgiveness and compassion are gifts we all could embrace, and that death could be viewed as more of a celebration of a life well-lived, than a loss of a loved one.

This is an emotionally beautiful book that brings forth feelings through its words and its images. My wife and I both read through this journey of losing one’s father and it hit us emotionally remembering our own fathers’ passing. The book’s writing is not only touching and sometimes heartbreaking but moments of dark humor shine through that bring a smile. The images throughout the book add to the beauty of life’s passage.
